Extremely happy with my purchase, it's a beautiful clock. Prompt delivery to Australia, excellent to do business with. Would highly recommend.
4.0 out of 5 stars Attractive looking accurate clock., 20 Feb 2012
This review is from: Skeleton wooden Anniversary clock with Westminster chime
The clock arrived damaged as a "like new" warehouse deal, but that's another story. Rather than return the clock I negotiated a discount and carried out the repairs myself (structural and cosmetic rather than mechanical) and have got the clock back in good order. It still has a full guarantee so I can always fall back on that if necessary, so I can't complain.
Anyway, for the purposes of my review I'll ignore the problems and review the clock as a brand new undamaged one would be.
The clock is set in an attractive wooden case with clear plastic panels to the front and sides. The gold effect frame, clock and pendulum are also plastic, but that having been said they're well finished and don't look cheap and nasty.
The clock itself takes one AA battery hidden behind a gold coloured cover to the rear of the clock, and two C cells and a further AA battery that fit under the wooden base for the pendulum and chimes.
The pendulum is just for effect, it doesn't actually hang from the clock but sits on top of a shaft that comes up through a hole in the base, which rotates clockwise and anticlockwise. There's a gap of about 1cm or so between the top of the pendulum and the clock, but this isn't obvious or visible from the front, and the pendulum looks good in action.
The Westminster chime chimes on the hour, there are no chimes on the 1/4 or 1/2 hours, and no "bim bam" to strike the number of hours. The chime sounds rather electronic, a bit like a doorbell, but it's pleasant enough on the ear. There's no automatic night shut off, though the volume can be turned up or down if so desired.
All in all though you get what you pay for, and whilst I would prefer glass and metal to plastic, a more realistic sounding chime and an hour strike, the clock keeps good time and looks very attractive, and I'm more than happy with it for the price.
See my forthcoming video review if you would like to hear the chime and see the pendulum in action.
